About the department

The Department of Educational Administration was started in the M.S.University of Baroda in 1951 under the able leadership of Prof. S.N.Mukherjee, founder Head & Dean, Faculty of Education and Psychology. The vision of starting the unique Department was to produce qualified and trained educational administrators at all levels of education. NPE, 1986 and Programme of Action, 1992 also emphatically recommended to make the system work. Giving importance to educational administration, the Indian government has given university status to NIEPA now NUEPA, New Delhi. It has been offering short-term training programme to educational administrators on regular basis. Many State Institutes of Educational Management have also started in India and offering training to educational administrators to improve quality of education. International Institute of Educational Planning (IIEP), Paris also offers research and development programme at international level. The Department has been offering Professional Diploma in Educational Administration and Master Degree in Educational Administration on regular basis and has been instrumental in improving quality of education by providing trained educational managers. Realizing this, UGC has given Department of Research Support (DRS) Project to the Department since 1994. After completing the first phase of DRS project successfully in 2000, UGC gave second phase of DRS project from April, 2001. During this phase, the Department offered many short-term training programme to school principals and supervisor, conducted many workshops and national seminars, invited international levels academicians to deliver lecture on important topics in educational management, started Master degree in educational management, and produced many Ph.Ds. in Education. It has collaborated with many universities like University of New England, Australia, University of Minnesota, USA, Assumption University, Thailand, Commonwealth Secretariat, London, Commonwealth Council of Educational Management, and many Indian universities involved in educational management. I am sure that the Department will excel if it gets the additional support interms of manpower and financial support from UGC, New Delhi.
